Things you should bring to your initial bankruptcy consultation:
#1 – Proof of income. If you are an employee, make sure you have your most recent paychecks and your spouse’s most recent paychecks if you’re married. If you’re self-employed, you will need to provide proof of income using bank statements, tax returns, financial statements or other documentation showing proof of income.
#2 – Critical documents regarding creditor lawsuits or current foreclosures. If you’re facing foreclosure or lawsuits, make sure that you bring the paperwork/legal documents regarding the litigation or foreclosure. The bankruptcy attorney will review these documents and determine the best course of action.
#3 – List of Creditors. Bring a simple, but complete list of all of your debts and creditors with you to the meeting with the bankruptcy attorney. Don’t leave off loans from family and friends, include everything. Remember, you cannot pick and choose which debts you will include in bankruptcy, you must include everything.
